China's Car Exports Surge, Global Competition Against Traditional Car Brands Intensifies

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) has released the export figures for Chinese vehicles in December 2024 and for the entire year. In 2024, the total vehicle exports reached 5.859 million units, a 19.3% year-on-year increase. By vehicle type, passenger car exports totaled 4.955 million units, up 19.7%, while commercial vehicle exports reached 904,000 units, a growth of 17.5%.

In December, among the top ten companies for complete vehicle exports, Chery exported 98,000 units, a 12.3% increase, accounting for 19.5% of total exports. Compared to the same period last year, BYD saw the most significant export growth, reaching 61,000 units, a 68.1% increase.

SAIC – 88,000 units

BYD – 61,000 units

Great Wall – 41,000 units

Geely – 38,000 units

Changan – 31,000 units

BAIC – 26,000 units

Dongfeng – 23,000 units

Yueda Kia – 17,000 units

JAC – 15,000 units

In 2024, looking at export growth rates among the top ten vehicle exporters, BYD exported 433,000 units, a 71.8% year-on-year increase; Changan exported 536,000 units, a 49.6% increase; JAC exported 249,000 units, a 46.7% growth.
